What’s in season - November?
November is the month for warming, hearty meals to be enjoyed by the fire on a cosy night in. It’s got all the root veg, perfect for stews, roast dinners and easy one-pan meals. Here’s what we’re looking forward to most.
Sprouts
It’s that time! The marmite of the vegetable world but we love ‘em!
Pumpkin
Spooky season may be over but pumpkin season isn’t! Our favourite is the crown prince variety but they’re all good sliced and roasted, skin and all. Roast the pumpkin seeds to use everything but the stalk.
Cranberries
We’re definitely creeping into festive favourite season here. Cranberry sauce galore or frozen in ice cubes for a mock/cocktail garnish.
Truffle
Make that midweek mash a little more bouji by stirring some grated truffle through it.
Chard
Swiss chard or Rainbow chard, both get cooked in the same way - sautéed in garlic and chilli, stems first (chopped up finely) and then the leaves. Goes brilliantly with (seasonal) sliced kohlrabi and (unseasonal) lemon as a side dish, in a gratin or a stew.
Celeriac
So versatile which is lucky because we’ve got it in abundance! In soup, with cheesy leeks, mashed or in a stew.
Parsnips
Another one ideal for roasting with honey, blitzing into a soup, adding to a curry or a casserole. Best to get creative with these guys because their season is long!
Walnuts
A dangerous time of year for us, with a bowl of nuts always on hand for snacking while watching a film - our favourite!
